I’ve put together a screencast that shows how to use your data from an external source such as a SQL Server database and combine it with your user profiles.

The screencast shows how to:

  • Import the application definition to setup the BDC application
  • Setup a custom import connection of type business data catalog and how to set the key between active directory account and BDC data
  • Setting up custom profile property section (the example is cricket statistics)
  • Setting up custom profile properties that import data from the BDC data source
  • Start a full import
  • Perform a search which returns the user and show the new data that is displayed in the users profile page.

A good quality version of the screen cast can be found here (4 mins).

Or the low quality youtube version:

Hi Daniel,

I liked the video of the cricket scores being added to the User Profiles of the BDC.

I am having a lot of difficulty with the BDC and I need some assistance to understand what I am not doing correctly and was hopeing you might be able to assist?

My problems come after I get the data into the BDC list WebPart, but I can not do any filtering or use the data in other BDC webparts as I have no types defined. I ma using BDCMetaMan, but as the tables I am using have no defined Primary Key I am finding things aren;t working as expected.

If you would be able to assist in understanding the whole creatinghte ADF & import process I would be grateful as it is preventing me from taking us to the next level of integration features.

Regards
Stephen Hughes
